There are numerous myths about fitness, exercise and workouts. It is a strange fact that people, who are exercising for long, possess lots of knowledge about exercise but many of them are just misconceptions.

As an instance, many workout performers think, they would not be able to gain a firm body without painful exercise sessions, which has no relevance with reality.

Nevertheless, awareness towards a healthy and toned physique has faded numerous fitness myths but still there are hundreds. Here is a check on 10 most common myths of fitness, exercise and workouts:

Myth 1: One needs a good exercise to get ‘lower abs’

Nothing else exists like the lower abs. There is an only long muscle that is called rectos abdominal.

If you are looking forward for six pack abs, you must concentrate in the direction of working out for four muscles, which are respectively, the rectos abdominal, internal oblique, external oblique and transverse abdominal.

Many people do crunches to get six-pack abs and you too are thinking about it; prior to performing them make it sure that you will be melting your body-fat into lean muscles. This is going to assist you a lot in your endeavor of attaining a toned body.

Myth 2: If the body is not aching then the workout is not enough

This is one among the funniest fitness myths. A painful workout session is not going to get you a firm physique; it leads you towards many muscle related ailments. When a workout is performed with right movements, it does not cause any soreness in body.

In accordance with a fact, 35-40 minutes long workout session a day is adequate for a healthy adult. An overdose of exercise causes tiny tears in muscles.

Myth 3: If a woman is looking for muscle-bound, she must lift weights

This one is for fairer sex; the myth advocates weight-lifting, as it helps everybody in getting firm muscles but in accord with science, women do not have testosterone hormone, which is supposed to be the key element in building of muscle-bound.

Weight-lifting helps women in building muscles, which improves their femininity.

Myth 4: If you can’t workout harder, then better not do it

You are always told about this but don’t worry, it is just a myth. You do not need to spend hours in gym.

Almost every fitness expert suggests to spend just 120-225 minutes for cardio exercises in an entire week, which can be divided in 4 to 5 sessions a week and almost 60 to 70 minutes for weight training, this can be divided into 2-3 sessions a week.

Myth 5: Vigorous exercises help in ‘padding out’

Maximum people go for vigorous exercises, as they think this is most effective in gaining muscle or bulking up. These power exercises are not actually for muscle building instead they are important for a healthy and strong body.

Myth 6: More protein means bigger muscles

It is a common misconception among people that the more they take in protein, the bigger muscle they will get.

However, this has no relevance with reality. The fact says that too much of protein consumption may cause a nutrient imbalance, which can lead to kidney strain and dehydration.

Another research done on protein consumption makes it clear that an overdose of much protein results in stored calories. Nonetheless, calories are essential for a healthy body but must be taken in the right amounts.

Myth 7: Machines are always better than Dumbbells and Barbells

In the present scenario, almost everybody is opting for machine-based workout sessions instead of the usual way of barbells and dumbbells. Though machines are very advanced and lets you workout in a comfortable manner, free weights (barbells and dumbbells) are most important for strength training.

Free weight exercises bring lots of advantages for you, as it helps you in burning more calories in comparison of workout-machines and also allow you to perform exercises that train numerous large muscle groups at a time.

It means you are able to burn calories in every set of exercise, which regulates a fast and better result.

As an example, when you perform an exercise with the help of barbells and dumbbells, you can squat train your calves, abs, lower back and hamstring; but while practicing on treadmill, you would be able to perform only leg extension exercise that targets only the quadriceps.

Free weights (barbell and dumbbell) exercises also help in increasing your body balance and bone density. These exercises are supposed to be the best exercises, as they have a long term impact.

In accordance with studies, these exercises always maintain balance and make one stronger, which is important in older ages, as these exercises diminish the risk of old age falls and enhance bone density thus preventing elderly diseases such as osteoporosis [preventing osteoporosis].

Myth 8: One must lose weight by dieting before starting weight-lifting

This is one of the most worked out myths. Many people believe that they must lose their weight before starting the practice of weight-lifting.

This myth generally exists among women. Often women possess a tendency to aim for quick results from weigh-lifting or diet programs and when they do not see any major difference on the scale, they immediately become discouraged.

Such exercises and diet sessions cut the body fat first and then assist in shaping the body but females try to diet more to get the perfect shapeas soon as possible, which is not good for the health.

Studies suggest that a combination of aerobics, strength training and moderate dieting is best for a toned body. Compared to serious starvation that leads to death causing ailments such as anorexia nervosa, this approach is the healthier one.

Myth 9: One should avoid dinner after 8PM

How can it work for those, who are active till late? For people who exert more energy, they require more nutrition. It is very important for them to eat accordingly.

They must follow a healthier diet plan for dinner, as this will help them in consuming the much needed nutrients. Nevertheless, dinner should be taken almost two hours before you are going to sleep, as it helps in healthy digestion.

Myth 10: Supplements are a must to attain a good body figure

Well, supplements are just supplements. In fact, they were named such because they were just designed to add-up or supplement the basic needs of the body, especially at times when there seems to be little or less intake of good nutrients.

However, it must be made known that these substances aren’t the exact answer towards getting fit. They are definitely not your ultimate fitness wonder drugs. If you have enough intake of the necessary nutrients like Omega-3 and proteins, then you don’t need to pour more supplements to your daily intake. The right balance of nutrients that is within the set daily recommended values is most appropriate.

By now, I believe you have become more informed about the most common fitness myths circulating around you. Continue to be wiser in your fitness strategy. Don’t just believe in what other people say. Know the theory behind the commonly used fitness regimen. Above all else, stay healthy!

What happens when you think exercise is going to make you feel good, but you wind up feeling worse than ever after beginning a fitness program? You wind up quitting because you think it is not worth all the aggrevation. The truth is, if you want your body to look and feel better, you are going to spend some time being sore at first. It took you a long time to accumulate all that excess body fat, and it will not come off without a fight!

If you begin a weight loss and exercise program knowing you will have to endure some pain right off the bat, chances are good that you will not only be able to prepare yourself better, but you will also continue on to success. If you anticipate, plan, and take the proper steps, you can minimize your soreness.

Physical Fitness Tips #1: Anticipate, To Deal With Soreness From Exercise
It is normal to get excited on your first day of exercise. Visions of you flexing those muscles on the beach are probably dancing in your head. This is great, but keep your head in the game and out of the clouds. You’re not going to get that way tomorrow or the next day. Lifting too much or running too fast could end up delaying your program while you recover if it does not burn you out all together. Start slow. Next day, push a bit harder. Next day, a bit harder still. Easing into a program is the best way to anticipate soreness and achieve steady progress.

Physical Fitness Tips #2: Embrace The Pain, To Deal With Soreness From Exercise
A little soreness means you have embarked on something that is good for you. While it’s always bothersome, know that it’s only temporary and that it is an important step along the road to your fitness goal. Think of it as hurting in a good way. A great way, even. Once you work through the pain, you are going to be fitter than before.

Physical Fitness Tips #3: Eat Proper Nutrition, To Deal With Soreness From Exercise
The more you exercise, the better you need to eat. The better you eat, the less sore you will become. Most people think that since you are burning calories with exercise, you can eat as much junk as you want. Not true if you want to remain healthy. Why? Because junk will not fuel your muscles properly. This is especially true if you are trying to lose weight. If you are eating donuts for breakfast, switch to a soy based protein shake. What you eat is always vital.

I was a chronic asthmatic my entire life and I could not exercise. I would have given anything for the chance to be sore from exercise! It was not until I began to change my eating habits for the better that my body began functioning properly. People told me I could never exercise but thankfully, I did not buy their story. I can not stress this enough. The better your fuel choices are, the better your body will perform. It is just like a car.

Physical Fitness Tips #4: Stretch, To Deal With Soreness From Exercise
Stretching your muscles before and after you work out will help speed up your recovery time and eliminate the risk of damaging your body. Easy movements and stretches both at night before bed and first thing in the morning helps your blood circulate better and will also improve your recovery time. When a friend of mine ran track in high school, his team stretched before and after each practice. In his five year running career, he had little soreness and no injuries.

Physical Fitness Tips #5: Ice Your Muscles, To Deal With Soreness From Exercise
Nothing circulates blood around like ice. If you have ever watched a locker interview after a sporting event, you probably noticed that a lot of the athletes were icing parts of their body. That’s because it is a great recovery aid. Almost all injuries heal quicker when ice is applied. And soreness is basically a tear in your muscle tissue. These are necessary in order to get stronger, and they will heal faster if you ice them.

Physical Fitness Tips #6: Exercise, To Deal With Soreness From Exercise
What do you mean, Exercise? Is this not how you got soreness in the first place? Yes! But here is the trick. More exercise is the last thing you feel like doing when you are sore but working out promotes circulation. Being sedentary while you are sore is worse than working out, as long as you remember to not work out too hard. It is a good excuse to be slightly active, since you are doing what is called a “recovery workout.”

Use the steps above when beginning an exercise program to lose weight or just get healthier. You will find that recovering from soreness is not as much an obstacle to overcome, but rather a part of the wellness process for which you can be prepared. Nothing in life comes easy. It took you a long time to gain all that weight and it will not come off easily with a magic pill or the latest fitness gadget. Learn to overcome small obstacles a day at a time so you can not only lose weight, but you can keep it off for good.

Pilates exercises is an ingenious fitness program based on the idea of its founder Joseph Pilates. This form of fitness becomes popular and many soon began their own programs. All movements in Pilates are performed very slowly but with the utmost attention to detail. In this type of exercise regime, quantity will not matter as much as quality.

All performing Pilates should operate from the awareness that the mind is the most important factor and the body operates through direct instructions from the mind. Every student should aim to improve the physical appearance while achieving a more balanced outlook on life. Every Pilates student must know that the ultimate goal of Pilates fitness program is not to increase muscle mass.

The tedious task of mastering the intricate workings of the mind enables one to let the body to flow freely and accurately simply by thinking about it and then it becomes second nature. Pilates comes in a wide variety of movements, you can choose to practice with or without machines. Focus, concentration, control, breathing, and flowing movement remain the underlying philosophy.

All moves in Pilates bear some hidden meaning and must be executed accurately to be able to tap into the real potential that this fitness program offers. It has become increasingly in demand as more people realize the benefits of this fitness program and how it can drastically contribute to a peaceful state of mind. The stress from daily life is increasing and people get more and more confused so practicing such a sport helps them redefining self equilibrium.

The fact that everyone can order a DVD so he or she can practice at home also contributed to increasing its popularity. If you are using a Pilates machine, they are really affordable that anyone can purchase them. There are however few restrictions even for pregnant women and children. Pilates has been especially helpful in helping people recover from injury and this how Moira Merrithew began her journey with Pilates. She met Romana Kryzanawska one of Joseph Pilates disciples. She introduced Moira to this sport and Moira?’s interest and dedication for Pilates made Stott Pilates a reality.

Get Fit Fast

Pilates created a revolution and changes the way people view sports and how slow movements can be used to sculpt a more beautiful body. Finally, people understand that you don’t have to compete to win anything in this form of sports. It all boils down to reaching inner equilibrium and a better quality of life.

Do you remember the days when exercise bikes were just bikes held up off of the ground? When exercise bikes were no more complicated than your regular everyday outdoor bike? It seems like a million years ago but in fact it was just yesterday. In an amazingly short amount of time exercise bikes have changed the way we exercise and they way that we stay in tip top shape.

Gone are the exercise bikes that are like outdoor bikes, not we have spinning machines and exercise bikes with TVs on them. We have exercise bikes that will take us up hills and down them to add some spice to our workouts and exercise bikes that will monitor your heart rate and your breathing. It is truly amazing just how much these amazing fitness machines have changed over the last few years. And the best part is that all of these changes to the exercise bikes of today mean that you get a better, more personalized workout each and every tie that you get onto on.

What makes exercise bikes so great and so popular is that they offer so much variety but you never have to leave the house. Many people do not like going to a public gym to exercise in front of all kinds of people. It makes you uncomfortable, who wants others to see them sweating? I know I don’t. And when you have home exercise bikes you never have to take this kind of thing into consideration, you can do all of your exercising in the privacy of your own home.

That is not the only plus to exercise bikes though, there is more. If you had a regular bike, what would you do when it snowed or it was raining really hard? It is not safe to ride a bike outdoors in that kind of weather. Not only could you slip and fall off, but others driving could have a hard time seeing you. This can lead to all kinds of dangerous situations but when you have your own exercise bikes indoors, you can exercise at any time of the day r night, in any weather with perfect safety. Safety should always come first and with these kinds of exercise bikes it always does.

When it comes to choosing the exercise bikes that are right for you, it will take some serious shopping around. You need to take into consideration why you are looking for indoor exercise bikes. Is it to burn fat? To promote good heart health? Better circulation? These types of considerations will affect the kind of exercise bikes that you should be looking at. Since there are so many add ons and extras that you can get these days you need to make sure that you are looking at the exercise bikes that have what you need.

For example, if you want to work on your heart health then you need to look at the exercise bikes that will have heart monitors and perhaps some more of those kinds of add ons.

Are you interested in losing weight? If you are, you may be in the process of developing a weight loss plan for yourself. For many individuals, a weight loss plan is a guide that they can follow and one that may help to give them motivation. If this is your first time developing a weight loss plan for yourself, it is important that you place a focus on exercise, as exercise is important component of weight loss.

Although it is nice to hear that exercise is an important part of a weight loss plan, you may be wondering exactly why that is. For your body to lose weight, you must see a reduction in your calorie intake. The amount of calories that you need to reduce, in order to lose weight, will all depend on your current weight and your hopeful weight loss goal. Unfortunately, this is where many individuals automatically assume that they can’t eat three meals a day and many actually just stop eating. This is not only dangerous to your health, but it can be deadly.

Instead of reducing your calorie intake by solely limiting the amount of foods that you eat, you can use exercise to your advantage. By exercising, you burn off calories. These are calories in which your body can use to help you lose weight. If you have a specific weight loss goal, like one that involves losing at least twenty pounds, you may want to focus on fun exercises or workouts, but also ones that burn the most calories. Adding exercise to your weight loss
plan is a natural and a healthy way to lose weight.

Since it is important to incorporate to exercise into your weight loss plan, you may be wondering how you can go about doing so. In all honestly, there are an unlimited number of ways that you can go about using exercise to help you lose weight. For starters, you can buy a collection, even just a small collection, of exercise equipment. Exercise equipment can include items such as exercise balls, weights, a treadmill, a stair climber, and so forth. Even if you have limited financial resources, you should be able to find a number of exercise equipment pieces that are within your budget.

Although you should be able to find a number of exercise equipment pieces, including instructional workout DVDs, for affordable prices, you may be looking to limit your weight loss plan investments. If that is the case, you may want to take the time to examine your local gyms or fitness clubs. While some fitness clubs and gyms have relatively high membership fees, you can also find a number of them with affordable membership rates. It is also important to mention that many fitness clubs and gyms are open accommodating hours, often making it easy to exercise before work, after work, or even during a lunch break of yours.

Despite the fact that exercise is often associated with exercise equipment, like a treadmill, that is not all that exercise is about. Exercise can also involve something simple like going for a walk or taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work. If you would prefer to exercise, for free, in your spare time, you may want to consider finding an exercise buddy. This is a person who can workout with you, even if it just involves walking around your local shopping mall. Not only can you make a new friend or strengthen your relationship with one of your current friends, having an exercise buddy or an exercise partners often means that you are more likely to stick with your weight loss plan and achieve your weight loss goals.

As outlined above, it is extremely important that you incorporate exercise into your weight loss plan, especially if you are serious about losing weight and wish to do so in a healthy matter. With multiple ways to go about incorporating exercise into your weight loss plan, there really isn’t any excuse for not doing so.

One of the all-around yoga exercises is the 12-step salute to the sun. Do it once or twice when you get up in the morning to help relieve stiffness and invigorate the body. Multiple repetitions at night will help you to relax; insomniacs often find that six to 12 rounds help them fall asleep.

1. Stand with your feet slightly apart, palms together, thumbs against your chest.

2. Inhale deeply while slowly raising your hands over your head, and bend back as far as possible, while tightening your buttocks. Hold for three seconds.

3. Slowly exhale and bend forward, keeping your knees straight, until your fingers touch the floor outside your feet. (If you can’t touch the floor, go as close as you can.) Bring your head in toward your knees.

4. Slowly inhale, bend your knees, and if your fingertips aren’t outside your feet on the floor, place them there. Slide your right foot back as far as you can go, with the right knee an inch or so off the floor, (a lunge position). Now look up as high as possible, arching your back.

5. Before exhaling again, slide your left foot back until it is beside the right one, and with your weight supported on your palms and toes, straighten both legs so that your body forms a flat plane. Make sure your stomach is pulled in.

6. Slowly exhale, bend both knees to the floor, bend with your hips in the air, lower your chest and forehead to the floor.

7. Now inhale slowly and look up, bending your head back, then raising it, followed by your upper chest, then lower chest. Your lower body – from the navel down – should be on the floor, and your elbows should be slightly bent. Hold for three to five seconds.

8. Exhale slowly and raise your hips until your feet and palms are flat on the floor and your arms and legs are straight in an inverted V position.

9. Inhale slowly and bring your right foot forward as in position 4. The foot should be flat on the floor between your fingertips. The left leg should be almost straight behind you, with its knee slightly off the floor. Raise your head, look up, and arch your back.

10. Slowly exhale and bring your left foot forward next to your right one. Straighten your legs and stand, trying to keep your fingertips on the floor, and try to touch your head to your knees as in position 3.

11. Slowly inhale, raise your arms up and stretch back as in position 2. Don’t forget to tighten your buttocks. Hold for three seconds.

12. Slowly exhale, lowering your arms to your sides. Relax. Repeat the series.

When Mike turned 65, he was 25 pounds overweight. By strict dieting, he shed the extra pounds, but he lost more weight; he also lost his energy and vitality. He was always exhausted, and his friends, seeing his gaunt, drawn face, worried about his health.

By the time volunteered for a particular fitness program two years later, he had put 25 extra pounds back on. After 6 months of exercise and some willpower at the dinner table, Mike slimmed down again. This time he felt better than he ever had, brimming with energy and glowing with good health.

What made the difference? The first time Mike lost weight; the second time he lost fat. The distinction is important. According to research, a large portion of the weight lost by dieting alone is active tissue, such as muscle and connective tissue, while a smaller fraction is excess fat. Exercise has the opposite effect. It increased his lean body mass and decreased his excess fat.

Same thing goes with cellulite. Most people tend to think that cellulites are only present to people who are obese. That is why they sometimes associate cellulite with fats and obesity.

Actually, even if cellulite refers to the chain of wrinkled “fat cells” and “subcutaneous connective tissues” beneath the layer of the skin, it should never be associated with people who are fat or obese. In fact, there are many people who have cellulite but are not fat at all.

In reality, nobody knows the main reason why some people accumulate cellulite. However, there are some factors that health experts are considering such as the structure of the fat cells or the poison that entered the body. Some experts say it may be caused by some hormonal changes in the body. But none of these things has been proven to cause cellulites.

However, the only main reason why most of the cellulite cases are abundant in women is that the connective tissues of women are more rigid and firm than men. Hence, whenever a woman gets fat, the fatty cells tend to swell and get bigger. It creates a protruding appearance to the skin producing an “orange peel” look.

For this reason, women are more prone to cellulite than men. That is why it is important for women to be more careful on their body as they have higher chances of accumulating cellulite.

Fats and Cellulite

With the many cases of obese people having cellulites in their body, most of them believed that their cellulites are caused by being too fat.

Even though not all those who are obese develop cellulites, being overweight can really trigger the development of cellulites. This is because too much fat under the skin tend to push the connective tissue creating a strain on the skin. Thus, cellulites form.

However, this is still dependent on the structure of the cells. If an individual’s cell structure does not inhibit the tendency to bulge or expand even if fat deposits accumulate, then there will be no cellulites.

So, the most important thing to remember here is to keep those connective tissues firm and strong and avoid accumulating excess fats so as to avoid the development of cellulite.

How? Start an exercise routine program.

Transforming food into fat seems all too easy for most of us. Losing fat is far more difficult, and to accomplish this, we have only three alternatives: (1) decrease food intake and keep activity constant; (2) increase activity and keep food intake constant; or (3) combine both approaches: diet and exercise.

Physical activity can help reverse the results of inactivity. An hour of vigorous exercise burns up 300 to 600 calories. If you also cut 300 to 500 calories from your daily menu, you can also lose weight at the rate of one to two pounds a week.

Without exercise, you would have to eat 500 to 1,000 fewer calories a day to lose the same number of pounds in a week. Exercise is not for everyone who is over-fat, however. The severely obese person should exercise only under medical supervision to prevent strain on the cardiovascular system and connective tissue. And no one should restrict food intake drastically without consulting doctor.

Resorting to this kind of activity will only get the matter worse. Remember what happened to Mike? He thought that when he started dieting, he would eventually lose all the excess fats he has accumulated. The problem is that he lost those connective tissues rather than excess fat.

For people who are prone to cellulites, this will be a greater problem. Losing connective tissues instead of fat by strict dieting can only make the skin more prone to greater problems but the fat cells are still there. That only means that the problem is not solved at all.

Hence, if you wish to loose those cellulites, it would be better to loose those fats first. The idea here is to burn those fats by increasing your metabolism by 7.5% to 28% more than your normal rate.

It is for this reason that exercising is an important factor in losing cellulite. So for a more cellulite free body, always engage in an exercise routine.

Have you ever felt tired and stressed out from work and by the time you get home you see your three children running towards you asking you to play basketball with them? You refused and promised them that you will after you take you rest.

Instead of disappointing your children, why not say, “yes” after all? You will be surprised by the amount of energy you will have after that 30-minute activity.

Did you know that by exercising at a moderate pace for only 30 minutes, you would feel a lot better, mentally? It has been proven that this improves the appetite and sharpens your style in problem solving. Not only that. You will also feel that it is easier to sleep at night if you do moderate exercises even for only 30 minutes every day.

What are the benefits of regular exercise? It promotes self-discipline and has a positive impact how you perceive life. Exercise helps in lifting your spirits and getting you out of any depression. For first timers, it can be done for 15 minutes for 2 to 3 days a week. You can increase the time you spend once your body gets tuned up for it.

DON’T you ever force your body! If you get hurt, then stop. You can take a break from exercising for a few days and then you can start again but you need to start from day 1.

Here are some moderate exercises you can do and enjoy:

1. Do the Walking. Make use of your surroundings. You can walk your dog, with your partner or child. Encourage your family to do the walking exercise daily and you will find yourself burning calories while enjoying the surroundings and getting enough sunlight that is also good for your body.

2. Discover the wonders of Yoga. Yoga is one effective exercise that energizes not only your body but also your soul. You may want to learn even the basic yoga positions that are not too complicated but proven effective. A five-minute yoga exercise can perk you up and recharge your body with the energy you lost for the whole day. You relax and at the same time you stretch!

3. Engage yourself into sports. Play basketball, football, baseball, tennis or badminton. Many doctors have recommended sports as an effective way to stay fit and healthy. Sports can also be done in moderation. Do not take it seriously. Shooting basketball with a friend is one moderate exercise that is also considered a sport.

4. Join exercise programs at work. If you still do not have exercises programs at work, then why not start it? You can talk to your boss about it and start with your colleagues. You do not only lose calories but it is also one good way to bond with them. This can be done 30 minutes, 3 times a week.

5. Exercise while doing household chores. Gardening, raking leaves, lawn mowing, doing the laundry, vacuuming and car washing are effective moderate exercises at home. Make use of these chores to sweat and burn calories. Instead of using machines and gadgets to perform these chores, why not do it with your hands and lose some fats?

Making exercises as part of your daily routines will surprise you of how much calories you will lose. Doing these moderate exercises of the same amount every day can burn 150 calories up to 1,000 calories a day!
